| Search Engine Marketing & Search
Engine Optimization
Let's
start out with some basic definitions. What is the difference
between Search engine marketing and Search
engine optimization?
Search
engine marketing is the act of marketing your web
site online through a variety of methods including, pay per
click or sponsor links, online press releases via syndication
through news portals & RSS feeds, organic optimization,
Link building, directory inclusion, video, and online social
networking.
Search
Engine Optimization is the art of manipulating the
pages within a Web site using a variety of techniques so they
achieve higher organic rankings in the top Search Engines
for your targeted keyword phrases. Search engine optimization
alone is not a true search engine marketing plan.
In this
tutorial, we will focus on the search engine optimization
part of your marketing campaign.
Lets start with a brief S.E. background
primer.
The Search Engine industry has changed dramatically since the
"good ole days" on the internet when everything
was free and to get good placement you just needed to add
"Meta" tags and "Title tags" to your pages
and submit to all the search engines you could find for free. With
a little work, you could usually get good placement in most
engines for your top suspected phrases.
Fast forward to the present. The way Search engines "look"
at pages to gauge their relevancy has changed dramatically
and continues to change. The Meta tags that were so important
in the early days have little relevance now as more complex
algorithms are in place to rank a pages "importance".
